A city and municipality on the River Segura, Murcia is found in southern Spain and it is also the capital of the Autonomous Community of the region of Murcia. It has a total population of about 563, 272 and it ranks 12th in the largest metropolitan areas in the country.
It is build near the center of a low-lying fertile plain which is called huerta or also as the market garden of Murcia. Murcia is surrounded by mountains and valleys of the Segura. The municipality is famous for its landscape and its beautiful orchard. It also has badlands, pine groves of Carrasco pine found in the precoastal mountain ranges. Murcia has a Mediterranean climate which is of semi-arid type with smooth winters and fine warm summers.
The Cathedral of the Diocese of Cartagena-Murcia built in 1394 serves as a beautiful sight in the municipality and it is inspired with a Castillan Gothic style. Another center of the town which is also a beautiful attraction in Murcia is the Glorieta which is a fine landscaped square which was made in the 18th century.
