Himare is one of the wonderful towns in Albania which is situated directly opposite the north coast of Corfu.
It is composed of high mountains that fall steeply to meet a very pristine and clear sea. It is also made up of long white sandy beaches and a small number of hills which are close to the sea and are generally terraced and planted with olive, orange, and citrus trees. It was first inhabited by the Chaonian Epirot tribe. It was on 1822-1833 when the Himariotes played a very significant role during the Greek War of Independence where they fought in several major battles that includes the decisive battle of Messolongio.
Himare’s residents are culturally homogenous people despite their linguistic diversity. Some of them speak Arabian while others speak Greek. They practice Orthodox Christianity and Byzantine Catholic faith and is said to be strong religions in the town. Every tourist and visitor is encouraged to see the beauty and wonder of the simple yet extravagant town.
