Italy is known worldwide for its beauty and historical landmarks. Among the cities that Italy is proud of is Genoa or Genova in Italian.

Genoa

It is a city and a seaport found in northern Italy. It is said to be the habitat of the ancient Ligurians. Genoa has a total population of about 620,000 in the city and 890,000 in the urban area. The people in Genoa are homogenously Italian. Among the immigrants in the city are the Ecuadorians, Albanians, Moroccans, Peruvians, Chinese, and Romanians.

Some of the beautiful sights in Genoa are the Piazza de Ferrari, Strada Nuova which is now called Via Garibaldi and was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2006. St. Lawrence Cathedral, the Old Harbor, and the well-known cemetery of Staglieno are also found in the city. A beautiful large aquarium is also a wonder in Genoa. Its port contains an ancient lighthouse which is called La Lanterna and is said to be the oldest working lighthouse in the world.
