Welcome to Abruzzo, a region in central Italy which lies 70 miles east of Rome and borders Marche to the north, Lazio to the west and southwest, Molise to the southeast and the Adriatic Sea to the east.
In the early times, the region was famous for the transumanza- the migratory movement of sheep to Puglia to Lazio every cold winter months. Some of the well preserved medieval and renaissance hill towns in Italy are found in Abruzzo. There are a lot of tourists and visitors of the region love to spend a day or more in Abruzzo because one third of the region is designated as national or regional park.
The region is known for its natural beauty and history. There are numerous castles and medieval towns in Abruzzo and tourists can have a lot of activities to engage in Abruzzo. Some can do skiing especially on the high plain of Campo Imperatore in the Gran Sasso and on the Piana Grande in Majella. Others prefer mountain climbing and swimming in some of the finest beaches in the region.
