Located in the southern part of the Land of Valencia, Spain, Alicante is among the fastest growing cities in the country. It served as the capital of the province of Alacant and of the comarca of the Alicanti.
The city’s local economy is based on tourism particularly in the beaches from Costa Blanca coast and the second residence construction boom that began during the late 1990s. Alicante is also blessed with their agricultural products such as almonds, citrus, olives and wine production. The city also has regular ferry services to the Balearic Islands and Algeria and an international airport which is served by Iberia and some other airlines. Alicante has a spacious harbor.
One of the most remarkable features in the city is the Castillo de Santa Barbara which is situated above the city on a cliff. Bonfires of Saint John is the most important festivity of Alicante which takes places every summer solstice. The city is also the Headquarter of the Office for harmonization in the Internal Market.
