Buthrotum is both an ancient and archaeological site in Albania. It is situated on a hill overlooking the Vivari Channel.
It was originally a town that is within the ancient region of Epirus. It is also one of the major centers of the local Chaonian tribe. In 228, theplace became a Roman protectorate alongside Corfu and Romans. When an earthquake occurred during the 3rd century AD, a large part of the town was destroyed causing the leveling of the buildings in the suburb on the Vrina Plain.
