Calabria is a region in southern Italy which is about 15,080 square kilometers in size and has a total population of 2 million. It is situated at the toe of the Italian peninsula south of Naples.

It is a narrow peninsula that extends into the heart of the Mediterranean for 300 kilometers. Calabria is known as the land of contrasts where the temperature in the mountains with below zero differs from the 40˚C in summer along the low valley areas. The region’s economy is based on modern agriculture, tourism and growing commercial base.

Calabria has a lot of beautiful spots and landmarks such as Reggio Calabria- known for its wonderful panoramic seaside with botanical gardens, Cosenza which is the seat of the Cosentian Academy, Sybaris, Scilla, Pizzo, Soverato which is famous for its pristine beaches, boardwalk and nightlife, and Nicotera- a splendid little medieval town with an ancient Ruffo’s castle.
