
Town and municipality on Southwestern Slovenia, Piran is about 46.6 square kilometers in area. It is also an old Mediterranean town that is located at the tip of the Piran peninsula just along the Piran Bay.
Piran resembles a large open-air museum and it has nice medieval architecture and a relatively rich cultural heritage. It is the administrative center of the local area and is among the country’s major tourist attractions. Piran has a total population of 16,758 and its municipality is bilingual where Slovenian and Italian languages are officially used.
Piran has a very magnificent international airport and also a marina. The narrow streets and compact houses give the city a rare charm. People from Piran celebrate the foundation of the first naval detachment Koper in 1944 every October 15. The city is also the birthplace of Giuseppe Tartini who is a composer and also a violinist. He has a very significant role in shaping the city’s cultural heritage.
