Situated in the northern foothills of the Ore Mountains, Chemnitz is hailed as the third largest city in Saxony, Germany and it has a city population of about 248, 021.Chemnitz

Chemnitz is about 220.8 square kilometers in area and it is named after the Chemnitz River which is a small tributary of the Zwickaver Mulde. The city’s name is derived from the Sorbian language which means “stony brook.” During the medieval times, the city was the center of textile production and trade. This development led to the industrial revolution of Chemnitz where numerous factories were established.

It has been reported that the city has the lowest birth rate in the world. Tourists come to Chemnitz to visit some masrvelous sights such as the Nischl or the Karl Marx Monument built by Lev Kerbel. There is also the Old Town Hall, the castle on the land of the former monastery and the beautiful red tower built during the 12th or early 13th century.
