The Danish pastry is regarded as a sweet pastry of the country and it is known throughout the industrialized world. The pastry of the Danish people is usually made of flour, yeast, milk, eggs and loads of butter.
The yeast dough is usually rolled out thinly, coated with butter and it is then folded into many layers. Sometimes, the dough is chilled to its handling. The process is repeated several times until the dough is buttery and flaky. Some regions of the country add other ingredients in the pastry. Among the added ingredients are jams, custard, apricots, raisins, flaked almonds, pecans and caramelized toffee.

The pastry is often topped with sweet and delicious chocolate, sugar or icing and it may also be stuffed with jam, marzipan and custard. The pastry can also be shaped as a baker desires. Among the shapes that are used by bakers are circles that has filling in the middle, figure-eights, spirals and pretzel-like kringles.
