A well known city with county rights in Pest county, Central Hungary in the Budapest agglomeration, Erd is famous for being among the most affluent communities in the country.

It was first mentioned in the document in the year 1243 and its name came from the word erdo which means forest or from er that means stream. The city was captured by the Turks in the year 1543 just after the castle of Szekesfehervar fell. The turks had then built a motte castle and a djami in the city. Erd became an oppidum or town in 1776 and the town grew but had remained mainly an agricultural town.
It is said to be the fastest-growing locality in the country in 1991 to 2001. Among the sites to visit in Erd are the historical Saint Michael Church, Turkish minaret, Geographical museum, remains of ancient Roman road and the beautiful Fundolika Valley.
