Formerly among Germany’s most significant coals and steel centers, Essen is a city found in the center of the Ruhr Area in North Rhine-Westphalia.
It has one of the largest urban areas in Europe which is made up of 11 independent cities and four districts with about 5.3 million inhabitants. The coldest month in the city is on January with temperature going down to 1.5°C. July is the city’s warmest month with an average temperature of about 17.5°C and the rain falls during August. Essen serves as a seat to various large companies.
When one would want to roam around the city, there is the coal mine and coking plant known as Zeche und Kokerei Zollverein. It has once a home of the largest coal mine in the whole world and was then awarded World Cultural Heritage status by the well known UNESCO. There is also the Villa Hugel, Essen Cathedral, Alte Synagoge, Essen City Hall, RWE Tower, Aalto Theater, Essen-Werden and Kettwig.
