Mordovia is situated in the eastern part of the East European Plain of the Russian Federation.
The republic is composed of many natural resources. There are about 114 rivers found in Mordovia. Its major rivers include Alatyr, Issa, Moksha, Satis, Sivin, Sura, and Vad rivers. It has about 500 beautiful and useful lakes. Peat and mineral waters are samples of its natural resources. It is said that the earliest archaeological signs of human beings in Mordovia are from the neolithical era. The head of the government of the republic is the Head of the Republic. Their current head of the Republic is Nikolay Ivanovich Merkushkin. He was elected in February 1998.
Mordovia depends on their industries such as the machine building, chemical, woodworking, and food industries. There are also museums, libraries, theatres, and other landmarks found in the republic. The prevalent confession of the republic is the Russian Orthodox Church.
