Athens

Welcome to the capital and largest city of Greece. Athens is also called the birthplace of democracy. It is named after the goddess Athena.

It is among the oldest cities in the world. Athens is also the 8th largest conurbation and cosmopolitan metropolis with an urban population of about 3.1 million people. It is the center of economic, financial, industrial, cultural, and political life in the country. Athens is also becoming a leading business center of the European Union.

Athens is considered to be the cradle of the Western civilization due to its cultural and political impacts in the European Continent. Athens’ cultural and classical era heritage is still preserved and there are still many monuments and artworks that serve as attraction to many tourists. You can also see the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Temple of Hephaestus, and the National Garden in the historical city. It was also the host city of the first modern-day Olympic Games in 1896.
