Welcome to Tatabanya, the capital of the county Komarom-Esztergom. It has a total population of 70,636 and it is found in north-western Hungary.

Tatabanya is situated in the valley between the Gerecse and Vertes Mountains. It was in the year 1950 when the town became the county capital of Komarom-Esztergom county and during the 1980s, it already had more than 80,000 inhabitants. The city’s industrial character was significant until the fall of the Socialist government and the political changes which took place in the year 1989. Just after the importance of heavy industry and mining had decreased the economic structure if Tatabanya has changed.
There are remarkable places to visit in Tatabanya and among these are the Turul monument which is found above the city on the top of Gerecse Mountain, the szelim Cave and forest park of Gerecse Mountain and the nearby mountains and villages. There are also a beautiful lake and medieval castle found near the city.
