Located in the southern part of the state, Halle is the largest town in the German State of Saxony-Anhalt.Halle

It’s first history is linked with the harvesting of salt and its name was said to be derived from a proto-germanic word for salt. Halle was part of the bishopric principality of Magdeburg during the 10th century. Just after the World War II, the city became the capital of the short-lived administrative region of Saxony-Anhalt but when the region was re-established as Bundesland, the capital city was Magdeburg.

Among the wonderful sites that tourists can enjoy in the city is the Giebichenstein Castle which is found west of the city center on a hill just above the Saale River. There is also the Moritzburg which is a newer castle that was built in the year 1513. It served as the residence of the bishops of Magdeburg and was destroyed during the Thirty Years’ War.
