A simple town in central Germany on the River Saale, Jena is the third biggest town in the federal state of Thuringia. It has a total population of 102, 494.Jena’s Finest

Jena is specializing in precision machinery, pharmaceuticals, optics and also photographic equipment. The city also served as the home to the well known Zeiss optics plant. It was in the year 1926 when the world’s first modern planetarium was made by the Zeiss company found in the Damenviertel district of Jena. Jena’s economy diversifies into bioinformatics, biotechnology, software as well as photonics. Its metropolitan area is one of the country’s 50 fastest growing regions.

Among the main sights of the city is the 13th century Rathaus or the Town Hall which has an astronomic clock that features the Schnapphans. There is also the Gothic St. Michael’s Church which has a bronze slab of Martin Luhter’s tomb. The city also has a botanical garden that is the second oldest botanical garden in the country.
