Lies 186 south west of Budapest, Hungary, Kaposvar is the capital of the county of Somogy. The city is said to have been founded on seven hills like Rome and has been inhabited 5000 years BCE. Â Â Kaposvar was first mentioned as Kapos in the founding document of the Episcopate of Pecs in the year 1009. It was in the year 1749 when the city became the country seat.
Kaposvar developed in the 1800s because of the railway line found between Budapest and Zagreb. It also became a significant industrial city. It was in the year 1990 when Kaposvar had above 50,000 inhabitants and the city was then elevated to the rank of city with county rights.
Kaposvar is enclosed by the gentle knolls of the subregion which is called Outer Somogy from the north and by the bluff downhill forests of Zselic from south. It is currently a developing junction for rail and public roads which has a tight connection to all the settlements of the agglomeration.
