Knowing Kalamata

Kalamata is situated on the Peloponnesos by the Mediterranean and is a city on the southern part of Greece. It serves as the capital of the Messinia prefecture.

The simple and historic city has an international airport and significant harbour. And ferries are accessed to many places that are helpful for the trip of the tourists and the locals. The city has numerous long beaches and it is also composed of many beautiful landmarks. Among the significant products of the city are olives and olive oil. Kalamata also has good schools, gymnasia, lyceums, post office, banks, and wonderful squares.

Its name is derived from the Greek words kala ommata that means beautiful eyes. Among the beautiful sights in the city are the Byzantine churches, Temple of the Epicurian Apollo, Castle of Kalamata, and the Benakeion Archaeological Museum of Kalamata. There are also good players in the city. There are in fact two teams of the country who plays for the second division in soccer.
