The music in Sweden is said to share the traditional Nordic folk dance music along with the other music in its neighboring countries like polka, schottische, waltz, polska and mazurka. Among the common musical instruments in the country are the accordion, clarinet, fiddle and the nyckelharpa.
It was in the 1960s when Swedish youth sparked a roots revival in the folk culture of the county. The groups focused on the instrumental polska music with vocals and influences from other traditional genres that became more prominent since the 1990s. In the 1980s and 1990s Scandinavian death metal bands then became famous with the international heavy metal community. Among the great innovators of the metal scene are from Sweden.
ABBA, Roxette, Army of Lovers, Ace of Base, A*Teens, E-Type and The Cardigans were among the successful Swedish pop bands who were known worldwide. The country has been regarded as the third biggest exporter of music in the world. They have also historically dominated the Scandinavian music scene.
