Satakunta is a region found in Finland which borders the regions of Finland proper, Tavastia proper, Pirkanmaa, southern Ostrobothnia and Ostrobothnia. It is well known as a historical province of the country. Its main city is Pori and it has a total area of 8,289 square kilometers.Satakunta

In Satakunta, there is only a small minority of Finland-Swedes and it has a total population of 235,416. The region was formerly a large area with Osterland which covers modern Satakunta as well as much of the beautiful Pirkanmaa. Satakunta was first formed in the late Finnish pre-Christian era in the beginning of the first millennium. It then became part of Sweden during the 12th century. It was in the 19th century when the eastern parts of Satakunta were transferred to the province of Tavastia.

The town with the rest of Finland was then separated from Sweden just as when Finland was ceded to Russia in the year 1809. Today, the eastern part of the old province has created the region of Pirkanmaa and also the western part forms of the region of Satakunta.
