Known as the capital and also the largest city of the Swabia administrative region of Bavaria, Augsburg is found in south-central Germany. It is situated at the confluence of Wertahc and Lech Rivers.
It was in 158 BC when the city was founded during the reign of Roman emperor Augustus as a garrison and it was known as Augusta Vindelicorum. Augsburg became an imperial Free City on March 9, 1276 and it was also the major trading center in the country. In the early times, people produce woven goods, cloth and textiles. The city then became the base for the Fugger banking empire.
The US Army had occupied the heavily damaged city in the year 1945. among the wonderful sites one can visit in the city is the Renaissance inspired Town Hall which was built in 1620, the bell tower which is known as the Perlachturm, the Dorint Hotel Tower, Der Goldene Saal and also the Augsburger Puppenkiste which is a well known marionette theatre.
