A town in Frederikssund municipality in Region Hovedstaden in Denmark, Slangerup is found in the northern part of the island of Zealand.
Slangerup was established by the Viking Slangir during the time of Harald Bluetooth. The town became the scene of activities which involved Bishop Absalon and Valdemar the Great during the 1200s. The famous Thomas Kingo grew up in Slangerup and he became the town’s priest in the 1600s.
The town covers an area of 46 square kilometers and it has a total population of 9,237. The municipality ceased as a result of the 2007 Municipal Reform being merged into Frederikssund municipality together with Jaegerspris and Skibby municipalities. Together, these municipalities created a municipality with a total population of 44,140 and have a total area of 260 square kilometers. Slangerup has a lot of places one could really enjoy visiting.
