The Spanish cuisine is mainly influenced by the seafood that is available in the waters which surround Spain and it also reflects the Mediterranean roots of the country. An important part of the cuisine is taken from the Jewish and Moorish traditions. Olive oil is an essential ingredient for cooking Spanish delicacy as the country produces 44% of the olives in the whole world. Butter and lard are also important ingredients in some dishes.

The Spanish cooking make use of sofrito to begin preparations of numerous dishes and it also uses garlic and onion as seasonings. The Spanish people are also fond of drinking wine every meal and bread is often served in meals. During meals especially summers, salads are served.
