A city found in Central Hungary, Szekesfehervar is situated 65 kilometers southwest of Budapest. It has a total population of 106,346 and it is the center of Fejer county. It is also the regional center of Central Transdanubia.
During the middle ages, Szekesfehervar was the royal residence and also the most important city of the country. There are about 37 kings and 39 queen consorts that were crowned in the city. Its name simply means “white castle with the chair/seat.” Szekesfehervar was subject to the industrialization after World War II and the most significant factories were the Ikarus bus factory, Videoton radio and TV factory and the Konnyufemmu aluminum processing plant.
There are a lot of wonderful sites to visit in Szekesfehervar among these are the downtown with historical buildings, St. Stephen Cathedral, Episcopal Palace, Zichy Palace, King Stephen Museum, Apothecary Museum, Csitary source, Globus cruciger which is a stone image of the royal symbol of power of the same name and a lot more.
