A city and municipality on the Dender River, Aalst is situated in the Flemish province of East Flanders.Aalst

During the 19th century, Aalst was described as the villa Alost because of its dependency of the Abbey of Lobbes. It finally became independent as the years pass by. Its textile industry is the city’s asset and the people from Aalst do not only produce the textiles but they also manufacture the machines that they needed. In the rural regions, they are known for their good production of hops that are sold to the old breweries in the area.

Every February, the city has fun carnival festivities. Surely, many tourists would want to witness this yearly activity of the people from Aalst. Among the sites which visitors could watch are the St. Martin’s Collegiate Church which is built in Gothic style, the wonderful tabernacle created by Hieronymus Duquesnoy the Elder, and Aalst also has the belfry in the town hall which is among the oldest and most handsome Flanders.
