Well “old” does not really mean ancient or something not seen today rather the term old refers to one of the oldest towns in Hungary which is Veszprem. It is old and it serves as the capital city of the administrative county of the same name.
It lies on both sides of the creek Sed and it can be reached from Gyor via Road rom Szekesfehervar by Road 8. Veszprem is named after a chieftain or the son of Princess Judith who had settled in the city after her husband Boleslaus I of Poland had expelled her son. The city also had a significant religious role in the fight to make Christianity the official religion of the country. Veszprem became the first Episcopal seat of the country in the year 1909 and also an archiepiscopal seat by 1993.
It is indeed the favorite city of Queen Gisela who happens to be the wife of St. Stephen. It is called the city of queens because for many centuries, queens of Hungary were crowned by the bishop of the city. It is also among the first Hungarian cities to successfully have and built a university.
