Welcome to Flensburg, an independent town in the North of the German state Schleswig-Holstein. It serves as the center of the region Southern Schleswig.

Flensburg

Known as the third largest town in Schleswig-Holstein, Flensburg is located in the north of the German state Schleswig-Holstein on the German-Danish border. The city lies at the innermost tip of the Flensburg Fjord which is an inlet of the Baltic Sea. The town was founded at the latest by 1200 at the innermost end of the Flensburg Fjord by the Danish settlers. It was in 1284 when the town rights were confirmed and Flensburg quickly rose to become among the most important in the Duchy of Schleswig.

The city has a well preserved old town that has numerous things to see from centuries pass by. Three among the four old town cores are found along the north-south axis. There are a lot of sights to be seen in the city such as the Johanniskirche which is the town’s oldest church, Marienkirch, Nikolaikirche which is the Gothic main church and there is also the Heiliggeistkirche.
