The Fernsehturm is a well known television tower found in the heart of
Berlin, Germany. It was built in the year 1965 by the former German Democratic Republic (GDR) and this image was then used as a symbol of Berlin by the republic’s administration.
It is visible in the entire central districts of the city because of its height which is 365 meters and after the installation of a new antenna in the 1990s it is now 368 meters high. The tower is known to be the fourth tallest freestanding structure in the continent. It has a visitor platform that is about 204 meters high above the ground and its visibility can reach about 42 kilometers on a clear day.
There are two elevators for bringing visitors up in the sphere section of Fernsehturm within 40 seconds. There are long wait at the very base of the tower because of their small size.
