The Great Cognac Drink

CognacCognac is a well known brandy which is produced in the town of France. It is composed of at least 90% Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche and Colombard grapes. Locals say that good cognac must be distilled twice in copper pot stills and aged for at least 2 years in French oak barrels.

It is made from eaux-de-vie which means “waters of life” produced through doubly distilling the white wines made in any of the growth areas of the region. The wine is characterized as very dry, acidic, thin wine and not actually appropriate for drinking but is best for distillation.

There are different grades of cognac showcased in the market and these are the VS or Very Special, VSOP or Very Superior Old Pale and XO or extra old. Among the flavors of the cognac are the grande champagne, petite champagne, borderies, fins bois, bons bois and the bois ordinaries.
