Laane-Viru County to the east, Jogeva County to the southeast, Vijandi County to the south, Located in the central part of Estonia, Jarva County has the 2.8% of the total population of the country. It borders Parnu County to the southwest and the Harju County to the north.jarva.jpg

The political and the administrative subdivisions in the county emerged during the first centuries AD and then two larger subdivisions appeared namely the parish (kihelkon) and the county (maakond). The parish is said to be made up of several villages and almost all the parishes had at least one fortress. The local area’s defense was said to be directed by the highest official who is the parish elder.

It was in the 13th century when some of the major districts in the county were developed. These districts were named as: Saaremaa, Laanemaa, Harjumaa, Ravala, Virumaa, Jarvamaa, Sakala and Ugandi. There is 1 urban municipality and 11 rural municipalities in Jarva County.
