French people are fond of drinking wine especially on family gatherings or even in simple friends’ night out. Chateauneuf des Papes simply means “Pope’s new castle.” This celebration was named so because it is said that the Pope during the 14^th century has a great fondness for wine.

� � � � � � � � � � � Chateauneuf des Papes festival is also known as the Veraison wine festival. The Chateauneuf des Papes is a town that has a vast vineyard o every other farm. There are about 13 kinds of wines in every region of the town and these wines are regarded as among the best wines in the whole world.

� � � � � � � � � � � The festivity is done in all of the wine making villages in the town. It is a celebration for the ripening of the grape fruit for the villagers to yield good harvest. People in the area make the celebration in the streets with live performances, wine tasting and music. Other things and activities found in the celebration are joustings, horse riding, jugglers, fire eaters, carnival and sword fights.
