The Splendid Merseburg

Serving as the seat of the Verwaltungsgemeinschaft, Merseburg is a city found in the south of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. It is the capital of the Saalekreis district.Merseburg

It was in 934 when King Henry the Fowker had built a royal palace in the city and had gained his great victory over the Hungarians in the same place. Merseburg also became the residence of the dukes of Saxe-Merseburg in 1657 to 1738. The city was unfortunately damaged during the World War II and 65% of its population was killed. The city was transformed into an industrial site during the twentieth century and there were also enterprises established.

The cathedral of St. John the Baptist which was founded in 1015 and was rebuilt in the 13th and 16th centuries is among the remarkable and historical landmark in the city. There is also the Cathedral-and-Palace Ensemble which has a very beautiful garden, Merseburg House of Trades that has a cultural stage and the German Museum of Chemistry which all serve as a good tourist destination in Merseburg.
