Situated southwest of the Ruhr area, Krefeld is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The city was among the few towns which spared the horrors of the Thirty Years’ War.

Krefeld is also known as the Velvet and Silk City and it hosts an honors program in foreign language studies even if it had a terrible history. Its residents speak Hochdeutsch which is the standard German that is taught to all educated German. The town’s origins were in Roman times just as when the legions founded the military camp of Gelduba.

The city is currently connected to the Deutsche Bahn network which has several stations that carry local trains. Krefeld also operates four tramway and several bus lines under SWK Mobil which is a city-owned company. Tourists and visitors could definitely enjoy their stay as well as their trip around the marvelous city because of the easy access of transportation.
