LamiaGreece indeed is a historical country with lots of beautiful places one can find. Now, let me take you to Lamia which is a city in central Greece.

It is simply a site of archaeological excavation and is the capital of Phthiotis and the periphery of Central Greece. According to a 2001 census, Lamia has a total population of 58,601. Some people say that its name was derived from the mythological figure of Lamia who was the daughter of Poseidon queen of the Trachineans. Another account says that it was named after the Malians who were the inhabitants of the area. It was called Zetounion in the middle ages when it became the seat of a bishop.

Lamia was occupied by Alexander king of Macedonia. The place then prospered during the third century BC under Aetolian hegemony. It also became part of the Modern Greek state in the year 1829. Among the famous people who had lived in Lamia were Thano Leivaditis and Aris Velouchiotis.
