TobolskSituated at the confluence of rivers Tobol and Irtysh, Tobolsk is an important and historic capital of Siberia and is now an ordinary town in Tyumen Oblast, Russia.

Tobolsk became the seat of Viceroy of Siberia and had developed or prospered on the trade with China and Bukhara. It is where the school, theater, and newspaper of Siberia were established. It served as the capital of the Tobolsk guberniya. The city depends mainly on their oil refinery. Some of the city’s traditional crafts like bone-carving are preserved and displayed in museums.

It is the only town in Siberia that has a standing stone kremlin or elaborate city-fortress with white walls and towers that has an ensemble of churches and palatial buildings. There are also many landmarks found in the city. Some of its monuments are the Cathedral of St. Sophia, merchant courtyard, epispocal palace, Swedish Chamber, and six baroque halls.
