Worms does not refer to the little crawling creatures in Germany rather it is a city found in the southwest of the country. Its name came from a Celtic origin which simply means “settlement in a watery area.”
Worms was established by the Celts who were the ones who called it Borbetomagus. It is known as the oldest city in the country and it remains embattled with the cities Trier and Cologne with the title. Worms is currently an industrial center and is famous for its local Liebfraumilch wine. There are also other industries in the city such as chemicals and metal goods. It is among the major sites where the events of the ancient German Nibelungenlied occurred. The city is situated on the west bank of the Rhine River in between the cities of Ludwigshafen and Mainz.
Worms has a very temperate climate in the winter time and it has a quite enjoyable climate in summertime. The city is said to be nearly destroyed twice in its history.
